Police arrest owner, manager of Thingangyun KTV COVID-19 cluster


Authorities have arrested and detained the owner and manager of a KTV bar in Thingangyun which became a COVID-19 cluster in Yangon Region.


The owner and manager of Music Zone KTV bar were arrested by police and have been held at Thingangyun police station as a large cluster was traced to the establishment, said Police Captain Aung Naing Moe, head of Thingangyun township police station.


A lawsuit has been filed against the owner and manager of the KTV, from which around 100 COVID-19 infections have been traced. They could face a prison sentence not exceeding three years as well as fined.


“Both owner and manager have been detained under section 25 of Natural Disaster Management Law and will be dealt with according to police procedure,” he said.


According to the Ministry of Health and Sports, so far there are 777 cases in Thingangyun township and the township has the second-highest number of cases in Yangon. Insein ranks first with more than 800 cases.


The country has reported a total of 16,503 COVID-19 cases with 371 deaths and 4795 recoveries on October 3. Yangon Region has the highest number of cases at more than 10,000.
